Curling has been a sport that has earned medals in the Winter Olympic Games since the 1998 Winter Olympics. The current season includes men’s women’s, and mixed doubles events (the mixed doubles competition was held for the first time in the year 2018).
In February 2002 In February 2002, the International Olympic Committee made a decision retroactively that the curling event from the 1924 Winter Olympics (originally called Semaine des Sports d’Hiver (also known as International Winter Sports Week) could be considered to be officially Olympic events and would no longer be considered as demonstration events. So, those first Olympic medals for curling that was at the time played outside, were awarded during the 1924 Winter Games, with the gold medal awarded by Great Britain, two silver medals won by Sweden, and the bronze awarded by France. A demonstration event was organized during the 1932 Winter Olympic Games between four teams from Canada and four teams from the United States, with Canada winning 12 games against 4.
Since the sport’s official addition at the 1998 Olympics, Canada has dominated the sport with their men’s teams winning gold in the years 2006 in 2010, 2010, and 2014 with silver medals in 2002 and 1998. Women’s teams won gold in 1998 and in 2014, a silver in 2010, and a bronze in 2002 and in 2006. The mixed doubles team took home gold in 2018. You can also check Curling history at sportsmatik.com
