Warner Bros. Discovery condemns a J.K. Rowling death threat following the Harry Potter authors support of fellow novelist Salman Rushdie. After showing support to author Salman Rushdie following his attack, Warner Bros. Discovery has condemned death threats leveled at Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. Rushdie is a celebrated Indian-born British-American novelist, well-known for combining magical realism with historical fiction and exploring timely themes through his novels. The author has also found himself at the center of multiple controversies as many of his works have provoked protests and debates, most notably that of his fourth novel The Satanic Verses, for which Irans supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for Rushdies assassination, which forced him into hiding and under police protection from the British government.
Rushdie found himself the target of an attack at a recent public lecture at New Yorks Chautauqua Institution, where he was stabbed multiple times by 24-yera-old Hadi Matar and was subsequently rushed to the hospital. Though initial reports indicated serious injuries, Rushdie has since undergone surgery and been taken off his ventilator, being able to speak and his literary agent indicating recovery to be going well for the author. In the wake of the attack, many have shared their support for Rushdie, though one notable supporter found themselves the target of further threats.
J.K. Rowling took to her Twitter to share her support for Salman Rushdie after he was stabbed at an event in New York. One user responded with a death threat stating the Harry Potter author was next, to which she called out for support, with Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Discovery strongly condemns the threats made against JK Rowling. We stand with her and all the authors, storytellers and creators who bravely express their creativity and opinions. WBD believes in freedom of expression, peaceful discourse and supporting those who offer their views in the public arena. Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family following the senseless act of violence in New York. The company strongly condemns any form of threat, violence or intimidation when opinions, beliefs and thoughts might differ.
JK Rowling Keeps Changing (& Hurting) Harry Potter Canon. J.K. Rowling keeps changing Harry Potter canon to better fit the Fantastic Beasts series. Heres why she keeps making changes and hurting canon. J.K. Rowling keeps changing Harry Potter canon to improve the Fantastic Beasts series, but her efforts have mostly had the opposite effect. Rowlings original Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (or, as its known in the U.S., The Sorcerers Stone), took the world by storm when it hit bookshelves in 1997, and kicked off an entire series of books about the young boy wizards adventures. The first Harry Potter movie adaptation hit theaters shortly after 2001 and was an equally massive success at the global box office. A further seven films were released after that and combined for a total worldwide gross of $7.7 billion.
Unsurprisingly, in the years since The Boy Who Liveds saga concluded, the larger franchise (now known as the Wizarding World) has expanded. It now encompasses theme park lands, video games, the official Pottermore website, a sequel play titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and a series of prequel films about magizoologist Newt Scamander (aka. the Fantastic Beasts series). In that same time, Rowling has worked tirelessly to expand the Wizarding World mythology, including the universes history and the backstories of its many, many characters. And yet, if anything, Rowling seems to have hurt Harry Potters continuity more than enriched it.
