Summer is almost here, so you know what that means… Now is the time to go shopping! Before donning swimsuits and flip-flops, let’s take a moment to savour the hidden jewel of warmer weather… The gown. I am aware that this is not news to you. We all have at least two (or two hundred, no judgement!) dresses. However, I wanted to highlight a few reasons why summer dresses are particularly great. To be absolutely clear, when I refer to summer dresses, I am referring to dainty, lightweight ensembles. Now, my arguments:
- Dresses facilitate mobility and ventilation. This is essential in humid climates. On a sweltering summer day, nothing feels better than a refreshing breeze. On this hot summer day, the air will be more delightful if you are wearing a dress.
- When the humidity is terrible, loose, flowy dresses (bandage dresses need not apply) are valuable. Humidity is a formidable foe, but humidity, high temperatures, and denim shorts? This combination makes me want to punch my own face in. No joke.
- Even though I’m wearing a dress solely for comfort, everyone will assume I’m trying to appear feminine. In my opinion, that’s a win-win situation.
- There are no waistbands. Already stated.
- If you wish to conceal a portion of your body, it is far easier to do so in a summer dress than in a shirt and shorts combination. Want to conceal your horrifyingly pale legs? Grab a maxi dress. Want to conceal your abdomen? Grab a peplum-detailed dress. Looking to lengthen your legs? A garment conceals the true beginning of your legs, producing the illusion of longer legs.
