When it comes to the difference between vector graphics and raster graphics, raster graphics are made up of pixels. The easiest way to visualise this is to imagine a square. If this square is raster-based, it will consist of thousands of pixels. If the square is vector-based, it consists of only four points. The computer knows how to connect these dots to create a square (then fill the square with the colour you specify). You can convert vector graphics to raster graphics, but you cannot convert rasters to vectors.
